Lawyer Danstan Omari put up a spirited defense for Governor Mwangaza, challenging the accusations of nepotism and arguing that the Assembly had no authority to summon the Governor. He also raised questions about the validity of the name used in the impeachment motion.
The controversy surrounding Governor Mwangaza's leadership has been ongoing, with the Meru County Assembly previously attempting to impeach her in December 2022. However, the Senate's 11-member Special Committee concluded that none of the charges against her had been substantiated.
The latest impeachment of Governor Mwangaza now heads to the Senate, where her fate will be decided once again. The Senate may choose to form a special committee to investigate the allegations or consider the impeachment motion as a whole. Mwangaza's legal team has continued to defend her, while the process remains under the scrutiny of the judiciary.
